WINTHROP – Roland Victor Hansen, 89, of Winthrop, and Ocala, Fla., passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024 of natural causes.
Roland was born on Nov. 30, 1934, to Mildred “Millie” and Carl Hansen in Madison/Augusta. On Oct. 10, 1954, Roland married his teenage sweetheart, Virginia “Ginny” Pelton and went on to have four children, Ronald, Holly, Patricia and Tammy.
Roland worked as a skilled die bender for most of his career, until he semi-retired in Ocala, where he continued to work as a greens keeper and irrigation specialist at various golf courses. When he finally retired at age 80, he moved back to Maine to be closer to his daughter, Patti, and most of his grandchildren. Roland always loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, or taking drives through the country to just enjoy the scenery and look for wildlife.
Roland was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ginny; his son Ron, his daughter Holly; his mother Millie, his father Carl; his sister Carlene and his brother Earl.
He is survived by his brother Robert; his daughters Patti and Tammy; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Roland will be cremated and laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Augusta. A Celebration of Life will be held at the VFW in Augusta on August 3 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
