Walter George Hart Jr.
PITTSTON – Walter George Hart Jr. of Pittston joined his Lord on July 12, 2024, surrounded by his family at Togus VA Hospice Unit.
Walter was the firstborn son of Walter Hart Sr. and Constance Marie (Miller) Hart on Jan. 21, 1949. He attended Gardiner Area High School, graduating in 1967 then went on to complete an associate degree in Architectural Drafting at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute.
Soon after earning his degree, he was drafted by the United States Army to serve in the Vietnam War. In July of 1971, he married Lorraine Dufresne. Upon returning from Vietnam, he went on to work for Central Maine Power Company as a Sr. Transmission Designer for over 40 years before retiring. Never a man to sit idle, Walter joined TRC as a consultant where his surveying skills were utilized for many years. As a man who valued keeping his mind sharp and understood the importance of education, he challenged himself by completing courses which allowed him to join Jack Skehan & Associates for several years as a tax preparer.
Those who knew Walter, describe him as a man of great faith, integrity, quiet dignity, and loving beyond measure. Time spent with his family and friends were moments that Walter treasured as he loved his family immensely. Walter was blessed to have many special connections and was grateful for his dear friend and cousin, Sharon Gleason. He was a man of character who could always be depended upon and sought for sound advice and when he shared his thoughts, true wisdom was given. He enjoyed gatherings, family dinners, watching racing in his recliner, reading a good novel by Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler, taking his wife to the ocean and attending events to cheer on his children and grandchildren.
Walter was a devoted member of the East Pittston United Methodist Church, where his warm smile made people feel they belonged. Walter quietly served the Lord not wanting to be recognized for any of the roles he held, or tasks completed. Church members could always count on the church being warm and a good cup of coffee after service. He was a man that knew the scripture, remained steadfast in his faith, and embodied what being a man of God meant.
He was predeceased by his parents; Walter Hart Sr., Constance and Robert Moody Sr., and his brother-in-law Timothy Moody.
Walter is survived by his wife of 53 years Lorraine Hart of Pittston; his children Melissa Neptune (Jason) of Cumberland, Walter (Bubba) Hart III (Lisa) of Litchfield, and Ryan Hart (Jen) of Tilton, N.H.
