
ROME — Richard Hamlin LaBelle received Rome’s Boston Post Cane at a celebration held July 20 at the Rome Community Center.
LaBelle was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Pearl River, New York, according to a news release from town officials.
After serving in the Navy in World War II, LaBelle married Lois Mosher and settled in Rome, where they raised five children.
He established Dick LaBelle’s Plumbing and devoted 50 years to community service. He served in roles such as selectman, assessor, overseer of the poor, chairman of the Planning Board, Appeals Board, School Board in addition to leadership in the church.
