Laurier “Larry” Guimond
AUGUSTA – Laurier “Larry” Guimond, 91, passed into eternal rest on June 18, 2024, peacefully after a short stay at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Waterville. Born in Augusta on Jan. 17, 1933, he was the son of Eugene Guimond and Yvette Rodrigue. Graduated from Cony High School in 1952.
Larry was predeceased by his wife Jean E. Guimond; son Daniel Guimond; sister Janette and husband Al Boucher; brother Eugene Guimond Jr.
Larry was survived by his son Patrick (deceased: July 5, 2024) and wife Tina Guimond; son Vic and wife Julie Guimond; daughter-in-law Gladys Guimond; stepchildren, Catherine and husband Robert Wittemore; Michael Couture; Jason and wife Daylene Couture; sister in law Joan Guimond; first wife Vivian Guimond, mother of Daniel, Patrick, and Vic; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
After graduating high school, Larry spent the next two years in the Army during the Korean war.
Receiving an honorable discharge in 1955, Larry then worked for many years at the mill in Augusta before eventually retiring from Kirschner’s.
Larry enjoyed his retirement by spending his winters in Florida with his wife Jean. He was a class A horseshoe player, playing competitively well into his late 80’s. Larry also loved to sing, didn’t matter what the occasion. His most memorable one was singing the National Anthem for the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in 1989 on Maine day. A committed member of the American Legion and a life member of Le Club Calumet, where he served on many committees and also served as president for one term.
There will be a service held for Larry and Jean on Sept. 20, 2024, at 1 p.m., at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, at the committal shelter where they will both be laid to rest side by side in the Niche Wall.
A celebration of life will be held following at 2 p.m., at the Calumet Club for Larry and son Danny.
