Steven “Steve” S. Kaplan

AUGUSTA – Steven “Steve” S. Kaplan, 66, of Augusta, passed away on July 17, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Steve was born in Queens, N.Y. on Oct. 10, 1957, the son of the late Robert and Cynthia (Sapper) Kaplan.

Growing up in New York, Steve graduated from Queens College, CUNY with a degree in liberal arts. Although he initially started a career in retail management, his passion for technology led him to finish his career at the T-Mobile Call Center in Oakland.

Steve was an avid Mets fan, but it was at the ticker-tape parade for the New York Yankees after their 1978 championship in the World Series where he met his future wife, Ann. This chance meeting marked the beginning of their life together, which took them from New York to California to Maine, settling in Augusta where they raised their family and many family pets.

Steve treasured his time and the lifelong connections he formed as Youth Minister for the junior and high school students of St. Joseph’s Parish in Gardiner. He will be remembered by his passion for his family and his love of animals, especially his grand-dogs.

Steven was preceded in death by both of his parents; and his beloved daughter, Nicole Kaplan.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ann (Lazowski) Kaplan; as well as his son, Jonathan and partner Alycia Fulton, his daughter, Sarah and partner Kelly Sawyer; his sister, Faye (Kaplan) DiPanni and husband Robert DiPanni; his niece Heather Fortman, and his nephews Adam and Matthew DiPanni.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 30 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner from 4 to 6 p.m. To view Steven’s memorial page, or to share an online condolence, please visit http://www.KHRFuneralHomes.com
