Paint Skowhegan is set for 3:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, during the River Fest celebration.
River Roads Artisans Gallery and Main Street Skowhegan have joined forces to host a plein air event where attendees can view local artists as they create paintings of local landmarks.
Maps showing the locations where artists will be working will be available at Main Street Skowhegan’s tent beginning at 10 a.m. Throughout the day, participants can cast their vote for their favorite piece.
The painting with the most votes will be the People’s Choice winner and will be donated to Main Street Skowhegan to be auctioned during Dinner in the Park that evening. Works of art created during this event will be available for purchase!
All completed works will be on display from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at a special pop-up exhibit at River Roads Artisans Gallery, 75 Water St.
Participating artists include John Alsop, Robin Davis, Cary Wendell, Jen Amadon Ward, Arthur Blake and Jack McCormick.
Alsop has painted, drawn and doodled since a young age. In high school he hid out in the art studio and went on to major in art at Colby College.
He lives in the upper Kennebec River valley and paints what is around him; landscapes, objects, food, road scenes, recollected drive-bys, dogs and whatever else strikes his fancy. Mostly he paints in oils and watercolors.
Davis is an American folk artist, she was born, raised and continues to live in Madison. Having grown around her artistic family, she was greatly influenced by the arts. She inherited her love of creativity at a young age and hasn’t stopped painting since.
In addition to her gallery in Madison, she also is a published artist. Her work has been mentioned and pictured in the book titled “Images of America Lakewood Theatre” by Jenny Oby, published by Arcadia Publishing (2017).
Wendell of Norridgewock has painted murals since 1983, he created sets for decades in seacoast New Hampshire. He also taught set design and tech at Phillips Exeter Academy for 22 years before retiring with his wife to Maine.
He is a member of River Roads Artisan’s Gallery and is the field coordinator of Artists Paint Skowhegan during River Fest 2024.
