Heroes appear in wartime, peacetime, in protests and politics. They’re everywhere, discouraged, weary, beat up, but soldiering on.
I consider two shining examples have appeared recently. Mike Pence. Joe Biden. Not together, but in unique bipartisan way, they’ve saved the foundations of America’s youthful democracy, and I feel the need to acknowledge it.
Alone, in the sobering stillness of a November voting booth, if we hear the voices of all our heroes, past and present, sung and unsung, we’ll know what to do.
