WATERVILLE — A man living in Waterville was arrested Thursday on drug-related charges after police searched an Edwards Street residence that has been under investigation for months, officials said.

Omar Sims Marquez, 21, was arrested on charges of Class A unlawful aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, Class B unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs and Class D falsifying physical evidence, according to an announcement to the news media from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Marquez was being held Thursday at the Kennebec County Correctional Facility in Augusta, his cash bail set at $240,000, according to officials.
Police arrested Marquez at 18 Edwards St. in Waterville after a three-month investigation by agents from the drug agency and officers from the Waterville Police Department, according to the announcement.
Police executed a search warrant at the residence at about 8 a.m. Thursday.
Marquez, who recently moved to Waterville from Connecticut, was staying at the residence, according to police.
During the search, police found Marquez attempting to flee through a second-floor bathroom and arrested him, officials said.
“Agents heard the bathroom toilet had been flushed and discovered the toilet to be clogged by several plastic baggies that Marquez attempted to destroy,” according to the announcement.
Police said they found 35 grams of fentanyl and cocaine base, also known as crack cocaine, inside the bags.
Investigators also said they found $3,600 in suspected drug proceeds and other evidence of drug trafficking inside the residence.
Marquez is expected to appear this week at a Kennebec County courtroom.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said it expects more arrests as it continues its investigation.
