AUSTIN, Texas — Thousands of members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America and guests gathered from June 30 to July 3 for the BPO Elks National Convention.
During the convention, Sandra L. Anderson of Winslow was installed as district deputy for the BPO Elks for lodges in the Central District of the Maine Elks Association, and will serve a one-year term.
Last year, the BPO Elks donated more than $499 million in cash, goods and services to the needy, students, people with disabilities, active-duty members of the U.S. armed forces and their families, veterans and their families, and charitable organizations. In the 156 years since the Order’s founding, it has made charitable donations totaling approximately $12 billion, according to a news release from Juanita Avila, editorial assistant, The Elks Magazine.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
