FARMINGDALE – Concepcion N. Larrabee, 82, of Maple Street died peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2024 at the MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long Term Care Glenridge in Augusta following a long and courageous battle with dementia.

Concepcion was born on Feb. 10, 1939 in Rota, Spain the daughter of the late Antonio Neva Garcia de Quiros and Candelaria Bernal Guitierrez, she was the oldest of four children.

While living in Spain, she met Oliver Larrabee, who was stationed there with the United States Navy. After marrying Oliver, he was to be reassigned, Concepcion moved with him and together they eventually ended up back in the United States. It was in the early ’80s that she became and American citizen. She truly loved America with all her heart.

Together Oliver and Concepcion made their home in Farmingdale. She worked in the shoe factory as a hand sewer, retiring in the mid-’90s. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time surrounded by her family and friends. She loved traveling and especially enjoyed vacationing in Quebec, Canada. She was a special woman that loved her family unconditionally. When her oldest grandson asked to come live with her, without hesitation, she said “yes” with true love.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of the caregivers who assisted Concepcion. It was through their caring and assistance that she was able to remain in her home for a long period of time. She received exceptional care and love while at Glenridge Rehabilitation, the family will be forever grateful. She was taken away too soon, but there is no question she is with God.

Concepcion was predeceased by her husband, Oliver Larrabee.

She is survived by her loving son, Joseph; three grandsons, Scott, Steven and Michael; great-grandchildren, Leilah, Machennah, Isabella, Emily, Kinsley, Brandon and Trevor.

Visiting hours celebrating Concepcion’s life will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at the New Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
