Peter Ralph Clifford

NORTHPORT – Peter Clifford of Northport, Maine, died on August 8, 2024, following a car accident. Peter was born on Union Street in Belfast on July 18, 1949. His parents were Ralph and Dorothy (Grindle) Clifford.

Throughout his life, no matter where he worked and lived, Belfast was always his real home. He returned to the area permanently in 2005. Peter’s language was all about music and he shared this joy with his many friends.

Peter graduated from Belfast High in 1971 and attended Maine University in Gorham completing a B.A. in history and education. After a whirlwind tour of Europe, and a few months teaching in Wilmington, NC, Peter returned to Belfast to accept a position with Waldo County Community Action. Later he worked for many years as a Social Security Representative and supervised the Portland Office for Quality Assurance. While living in Hallowell Peter started his own business, becoming a Disability Consultant, working with clients to navigate the social security system and appeal denied benefits. His dogged, never give up attitude, provided many successful outcomes for his clients. Peter is the proudest of this work and he traveled all over the country to represent those who asked.

Peter most enjoyed sharing his love of music with his many friends. His smiles and joyful spirit will be missed greatly.

Peter is survived by his wife Linda Clifford; daughter Elizabeth Clifford, her husband Zach Lipman, their children Maisy and Josie; and by his son Nathaniel Clifford, his wife Jade Jump Clifford, and their children Maya and Luca; a sister Carolyn Kulp who lives in Maryland; a sister predeceased him, June (Clifford) Wood; two nieces, Ann Hundermark and Dee Dee Thompson of Maryland and a nephew, Ralph Wood of Monroe, Maine.

A celebration of his life will be held in September, time and place to be announced.

Volunteers, music and ideas for Celebration of Life appreciated by his non-musical wife. Contact Linda at [email protected]
