LEWISTON — Lay members of the Dominican Order and the Knights of Columbus from the Lewiston-Auburn area plan to hold Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica Tours Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17 and 18, during the LA Balloon Festival.

Holding one of the banners now posted in front of the Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica, and one in front of Holy Cross Church on Lisbon Street in Lewiston, so people can see it coming in from the turnpike, from left are Denise Mailhot, Claude Mailhot Sr. and Jackie Provencher, OP. Submitted photo
Tours will be approximately 30 minutes long and showcase the historical, architectural and artistic legacy of the Basilica. Each tour group will end in the lower church where refreshments will be served, and guests will have the opportunity to view an additional informational powerpoint presentation.
Tours will begin each day at noon and end approximately at 3 p.m., with the last tour on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., and are free. The Basilica is located at 122 Ash St. People should gather at the front staircase on Bartlett Street.
Free van rides to and from the festival will be available. Donations to help cover the costs will be accepted.
For more information, contact Denise Mailhot, OP, at 207-786-3380.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
