GREENE — Marc P. Mailhot celebrates his 64th year of public performances with a pair of concerts at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Sawyer Memorial Hall, 371 Sawyer Road.
Classically trained for 11 years on the piano beginning at age six by the late great piano teacher Louis Sirois and performing in his first piano recital in May 1960, Mailhot is an accomplished piano artist and a self-taught drummer. During his career he has performed thousands of shows all over New England, and has written, produced and recorded music. While at Westbrook High School in 1967, he was chosen to sing in the All-State Concert as a Tenor, and in 1968 performed “Edelweiss” as a solo in the All-City Concert. In 1962, during his time as a piano student, he heard and met Roger Williams, Ferrante & Teicher and world-famous classical conductor and composer Loren Hollander.
During his musical career he has performed on piano and for 60 years as a drummer playing with pioneering Maine bands Love, Inc. (1967-1971), Pegasus (1971-1973), The Chapparals (1980s), and most recently with Get Back/Rain Beatles Tribute Band (2000s). With Love, Inc. the band released three charting singles in 1969, 1970 and 1971 — the first, “She Don’t Care About Me,” charting to No. 5 on the Maine Music Charts in 1969. They were also the first Maine pop band to record a complete album in April 1970 at EAB Studios in Lewiston.
Mailhot has performed at the Franco Center in Lewiston, as a solo artist since 2011 and as drummer for the Connie Francis “Combo” Tribute Show from 2015-18, at Portland City Hall opening for Bob Seger with Pegasus in 1973 and also with Pegasus opening for The Edgar Winter Group at the Portland Expo also in 1973. With Love, Inc. in 1969 he opened for Charles Musselwhite, The Orphans and Country Funk. Love, Inc. also performed the first “Rock Mass” in Maine at Holy Cross Church in South Portland in May 1969, and recorded the Theme Song “We’re All We’ve Got” for the 1970 Maine United Way Campaign.
