NEEDHAM, Mass. – Alton Blinn Earle, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Aug. 7, 2024, at the age of 90. The family is particularly grateful for the professional, compassionate care he received during his final days at Beth-Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, Mass.

Born on June 11, 1934, in Skowhegan, Alton spent his early years on the family farm on Malbons Mills Road learning the values of hard work and dedication from a young age. He was the beloved son of Robert Randolph Earle and Florence Jane Earle (née Embleton) and cherished brother of Robert William Earle.

Alton’s passion for education led him to achieve two master’s degrees—one in French Language and another in Education. His love for the French language played a significant role throughout his life, including when he met his beloved wife, Betty Jane Earle (née Bloomer), at Middlebury College in Vermont. During their time at Middlebury, their shared affection for the French language was a unique and beautiful aspect of their relationship, with all conversations and a marriage proposal made in French.

Alton served honorably in the Army and was grateful for the experiences and opportunities it gave him for his future professional development. His service was a testament to his commitment to his country.

Alton and Betty were blessed with two sons, Keith Alton Earle and Kenneth Robert Earle. Keith is married to Kathleen Anne Earle (née White), and Kenneth is married to Sandy Marie Wilkinson. Alton was a proud grandfather to Morgen Michael Earle, and great-grandfather to Morgen’s daughters, Cora June Earle and Eloise Grace Earle.

Alton was a man of many passions. He had a discerning taste for fine vodka and was known for his love of Speedo bathing suits, never shying away from sharing either. His vibrant personality and unique interests brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.

One of Alton’s greatest joys was his lake-side camp in Maine. This retreat was a labor of love and a sanctuary where he found peace and fulfillment. It became a cherished family refuge, where countless memories were made, and Alton’s spirit will forever reside.

Alton often referred to his struggle with “aging process crapola,” a reflection of his humor and resilient spirit. He faced life’s challenges with a light touch and a determination to live fully.

Alton was significantly influenced by his mother, Florence Jane Earle. One of his cherished memories was asking her, as she washed milk cans, “Why are we here?” She replied, “Well, to worship and glorify God.” This profound moment shaped Alton’s outlook on life and his enduring faith.

Alton was predeceased by his brother, Robert William Earle (Mary Elizabeth).

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his sons Keith (Kathy) and Kenneth (Sandy); his grandson, Morgen; and great-granddaughters, Cora and Eloise; his brother’s widow; nieces and nephews Judy, Jane, Dawn, and Mike, their children and families; and numerous cousins.

Alton’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the pursuit of knowledge. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A private family service will be held to celebrate Alton’s life at a time and place to be determined. To share a memory please visit http://www.eatonfuneralhomes.com.
