AUGUSTA — A Hiram man was arrested by state police after a vehicle pursuit and a standoff Wednesday morning in Augusta, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Zebbie Thomas, 32, was arrested on two outstanding warrants after a short standoff on Sadies Way in Augusta and transported to the Kennebec County jail, the release said.
The chase began in Monmouth, where local police spotted a vehicle that was possibly involved in a domestic incident earlier that morning in Cumberland County, the release said. The suspect was in the vehicle along with the alleged female victim.
Monmouth police called Maine State Police, who followed the vehicle, driven by Thomas, through Winthrop, Monmouth and Wales before police stopped the chase out of safety concerns, according to the release.
Later that morning, state police received a tip that Thomas was at a residence on Sadies Way in Augusta. Police set a perimeter and the victim escaped without injuries.
Thomas, police said, had two outstanding arrest warrants. Additionally, he was on probation and not allowed to have contact with the victim.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the domestic incident and additional charges may be pending.
