Lorraine E. Gray

MADISON – We are sad to announce that our dear mother has passed away, leaving a void her family cannot fill. Lorraine died peacefully on Aug. 8, 2024, while staying at the Lamp Memory Care Center in Lisbon.

She was born in Anson on April 9, 1939, to Erland and Lillian (Vining) Clark.

She was predeceased by eight brothers; her husband, Charles “Charlie” Gray who passed away Sept 1, 2016; and their son, Brian, who passed at the age of 5 due to Leukemia.

Lorraine met Charlie when she was 19, they married a year later and were together 58 years. They had four children and resided in Madison. They did everything together, were dedicated to each other, and Lorraine cared for Charlie in his last days so he could stay at home to pass peacefully.

In the beginning of their marriage, Lorraine worked at the Norridgewock Shoe Shop, and later left that job to pursue being self-employed and founded Lorraine’s Secondhand Shop at their home on Main Street in Madison.

The business flourished and allowed Charlie to quit his job at the mill and join Lorraine, buying and selling all sorts of things, new and used. They had their own little gold mine and truly enjoyed the freedom it brought to them and their family. They were passionate about the work they did, and it was fun for the entire family, often with their children helping them. They taught their children and grandchildren to be determined, self-sufficient, and countless other life lessons.

She leaves behind three children, Dana (61), Anita (56), and Mark (53); nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, and three sisters.

It hurts to let you go but memories will stay, photos will remind, and stories will keep you alive. You’ll stay in all the hearts that you’ve touched, always. The pain of missing you or wanting to pick up the phone to call you is a beautiful reminder of the joy of loving you!

Rest in peace with your forever love, Charlie, and finally reunite with your deeply missed son, Brian. Xoxo

RIP Mama
