BATH — The Kennebec Estuary Land Trust and Bath at Play plan to celebrate the last day of summer vacation with an ice cream social at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, at LOCAL Garden, 63 Lemont St.
The land trust has planned a grand opening of an imaginative reading nook at a wooden hobbit house built by Maine makers Wooden Wonders.
Bath at Play has contributed a matching free little library, with reading choices donated by local authors and supporters. These new children’s play spaces will be tucked into the community garden, with 42 raised beds and volunteers that have grown organic produce for food-insecure families in Bath for more than a decade.
A suggested $5 donation will support the garden and for an ice cream truck on site.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
