Bruce Hudson
CORINNA – Bruce Hudson, 87, of Corinna, died on August 19, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Bruce was born in Plainfield, Vt., on Dec. 26, 1936, to James and Dorothy (Raymond) Hudson.
He graduated from Plainfield High School in 1954 and quickly began a life of service to his faith, his country, and his loved ones. Bruce served four years in the Air Force and would be educated at Lyndon State College and the Bangor Theological Seminary.
Bruce served as a Methodist minister at Danforth United Methodist Church, Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, Highland Avenue United Methodist Church in Gardiner, and would retire from ministering at Corinna United Methodist Church.
On July 15, 1995, Bruce married the love of his life, Ruth Pooler. Adventurous and unendingly energetic, Ruth would take Bruce (sometimes reluctantly) on hikes, bike rides, trips, and sojourns that kept him in good health throughout their 29 years of marriage. When he wasn’t active, Bruce enjoyed quieter moments playing shuffleboard, cribbage, and card games.
An avid sports fan, Bruce loved basketball but was happy to watch any game on TV. Often he could be found napping while “watching” professional golf. Bruce also found great happiness participating in the church choir, where his rich singing voice was well loved by parishioners. But his greatest joy was time spent with his wife, brothers and sisters in Vermont, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be remembered warmly for his kindness, deep belly laughter, and thoughtful demeanor.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Ruth Hudson; children Jane Hudson and husband Richard, Anne Helm and husband Jon, Mark Hudson and wife Robin, Jason Hudson and fiancée Jess, Craig Pooler and wife Polly, Karen Wilson and husband Robert, and special Kiwi daughter Marie Waterhouse and husband Steve; siblings Ronald Raymond and wife Judy, Cynthia Wilkerson and husband Don, Doug Hudson and wife Monie, Dan Hudson and wife Sue, Darlene Clark and husband Keith, and Wendy Kuncz and husband John; grandchildren Ashley Blanchard and husband Ron, Amanda Payne and husband Eric, Natasha O’Leary and husband Joe, Zac Helm and wife Maggie, Sam Helm and wife Abby, Megan Skidgel and husband Dalton, Tyler Hudson, Lindsay Hudson and partner Cody, Caleb Hudson, and Nikalus and Ashton McLaughlin; great-grandchildren Brauneck and Raegan Blanchard, Bode Payne, Raleigh and Hazel Helm; Braelyn, Ryker, and Thatcher Skidgel, Josie Hudson, and Ruby and Owen Leonard; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Terry and Bill Hudson, and his sister Connie Goslant.
A service will be hosted by Corinna United Methodist Church on Sept. 7, 2024, at 3 p.m. There will be time of remembrance and refreshments after the service in the church annex.
