Antionette “Toni” Ruth King

DETROIT – Antionette “Toni” Ruth King, 85, passed away on Aug. 13, 2024, following a lengthy illness.

Toni was born on Jan. 28, 1939, the daughter of John Francis Joseph and Ruth Virginia (Cummings) King. She was a graduate of Clinton High School class of 1957. Toni lived in Maine until 1999 when she moved to Chico, Calif., ultimately moving back in 2023.

Toni’s first job was at Hathaway Company. Her favorite job was Warnaco, where she drove. She held a Class A license and loved driving an 18-wheeler. Toni also worked alongside her mother, Ruth King, who raced horses. She loved to read, put together jigsaw puzzles, watch crime shows, play video games with her family, and dance. Toni would often say how proud she was of her four daughters. After moving to Maine, the American Legion Post 2 was her “happy place”.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Vee Fuller (1963); her father, John Francis King (1971), her mother, Ruth Virginia King (1991); her brothers Richard Anthony King (1995) and William John King (2009); her niece Gwendolyn “Gwen”; and her granddaughter, Tasha Dunham.

Toni is survived by her daughters Debra MacLeod and her husband David MacLeod, Melody Rousseau, Tawni Shaw and her husband Charlie Shaw, and Amber Morgan; nine grandchildren, Timothy Clark, Matthew Dodge, Jade MacLeod, Tia Rousseau, Cara Laci Rousseau, Ashton Morgan, Zachary Morgan, Heidy Mullen, Jessica Winzler, and Charles Shaw IV; eight great-grandchildren, Sebastion Clark, Tristan Clark, Erik Dodge, Ethan Dodge, Cassady Shaw, Dodge Shaw, and Briauna Rousseau; great-great-grandson, Jason Davis; many nieces and nephews; and also by her special friends at the American Legion Post 2, Augusta.

The family of Antionette “Toni” King wishes to extend their sincere thanks to St. Joseph’s Hospice in Bangor, for the wonderful care and support they gave to Toni and her daughters.

There will be a Celebration of Life Sept. 1, at the American Legion Post 2, Augusta from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery, in the fall, to be announced later.
