AUGUSTA — The Maine Municipal Association held its annual election of officers and Executive Committee members on Aug. 24.
President Diane Hines, with assistance from Kelly Maines, executive office coordinator, and Sarah Jancarik, staff attorney, conducted the annual election of the association’s vice president and three members of the 12-member Executive Committee.
With the 169 ballots inspected and counted, Justin Poirier, Monmouth town manager, was named vice president. David Cyr, Frenchville town manager, Matthew Garside, Poland town manager, and Michele Varuolo-Cole, Bethel selectperson, were named to the Executive Committee.
The newly elected municipal officials will officially commence their terms on Jan. 1, 2025, with Poirier serving as vice president for a one-year term before becoming president in 2026, and Cyr, Garside and Varuolo-Cole serving three-year terms.
Additionally, Pious Ali, Portland city councilor, was recently appointed to fill an Executive Committee vacancy that occurred when Terry Helms, town of Grand Isle, was no longer eligible to serve.
During the annual convention on Oct. 2 and 3 at the Augusta Civic Center, Vice President Melissa Doane, Bradley town manager, will be sworn in to lead the association in 2025. Hines will serve as immediate past president during 2025 term.
