Monica (Monique) Raymond Caron

HALLOWELL – Monica (Monique) Raymond Caron of Hallowell died on August 29, 2024 at the age of 82. Monique was born in Lewiston on Aug. 6, 1942, the daughter of the late Ralph T. and Ida Houle Raymond.

She met her high school sweetheart, Donald Caron, at Lewiston High School, where she graduated in 1961. They married in August of 1962.

She worked at the Lewiston Public Library from 1961 to 1965. After they moved to Hallowell, in 1967, she found employment with the State Law and Legislative Reference Library.

After the birth of her second child, she worked for the Hall-Dale School Department for five years, returning to the State Law Library in 1980. She remained there until her retirement in 2002.

She inherited her love of music from both her parents. Ralph and Ida performed in many musical events and soirees in the Lewiston and Auburn area, as well as radio. Music became a theme that wove itself all through her life, starting with the Hall-Dale Music Boosters, and then on to the Bicentennial Singers. Throughout the years that she lived in Hallowell, she remained a member of the Sacred Heart Church Choir.

Monique was very supportive of her husband’s many roles in Knights of Columbus activities. She was lovingly referred to by the Council members as the Waaaaaay Outside Guard. She won many State Council Awards, for Outstanding Yearbook, for the Father John E. Bellefontaine Council.

After her retirement, she became interested in genealogy, and researched six family lines to Canada and France.

Monique and Don enjoyed many trips together to the Caribbean and Canada.

She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Caron; two sons, David G. Caron and his wife Laura of Raynham, Mass. and Jon R. Caron and his wife Kerry of Manchester; four grandchildren, Molly Mae, Jacob, Andrew and Connor; two sisters-in-law, Joline Desjardins and her husband Fred and Anne Bilodeau.

At the family’s request all services will be private. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn. Arrangements are under the direction of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
