FAYETTE — Children gathered at Underwood Memorial Library Sept. 4 for a fun-filled afternoon as Katie Van Houten read Johnny Appleseed by Steven Kellogg. Following the story, the children created handprint apple trees by tracing their hands to form the tree trunk and branches, cutting out apple shapes, and gluing them to complete the craft.
There were two crafting stations set up with glue, scissors, different colored apples and paper. Hope Mayo, age 8, said she made her handprint apple tree into an upside down sky tree.
Snacks were provided, and after the craft some children enjoyed playing with Legos.
The next event, a STEM Kids Night will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 18, featuring activities like chain reactions, Lego challenges, and STEM projects inspired by books.
Upcoming events in October are scheduled for 6 p.m. and include a story and making parts of a pumpkin craft Oct. 2, a STEM challenge Oct. 16 to make a witch’s brew and playing bingo, and Oct. 26 there will be a community Halloween costume party, trick or treats and Halloween games like bean bag toss, witch hat ring toss and pumpkin bowling.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
