CANAAN — A 28-year-old Canaan man was killed Monday night in a single-vehicle crash near the Skowhegan town line, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. Monday on U.S. Route 2, also known as the Canaan Road, when Anthony Hunt lost control of his 2018 Dodge Charger.
Hunt was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the car at the time, according to Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster.
“He lost control of the vehicle, went off the right side of the roadway and into the trees,” Lancaster said. “He was ejected from the vehicle, which leads me to believe he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.”
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash. Somerset sheriff’s deputies reconstructed the crash at the scene with assistance from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster said.
The crash remains under investigation, according to authorities.
