Marie Jeanette Harrington
SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. – Marie Jeanette Harrington passed away on Sept. 2, 2024, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical
Center in Spotsylvania, Va. She was 89 years old. Marie was born Jan. 29, 1935, in Calais, Maine. She was the only child of Fae Yeaton Morrison and Charles P. Morrison.
While working as a civil engineer for the Maine State Highway Dept., Marie’s dad moved the family to various locations before finally settling their family in Ellsworth, Maine. Marie attended elementary and secondary schools in Ellsworth and graduated in 1952 from Ellsworth High School. She immediately enrolled in the nursing program at Eastern Maine General Hospital in Bangor and graduated in 1955 as a Registered Nurse. Upon graduating from nursing school she took a job as the school nurse in Ellsworth and remained in that position until she married.
Marie Morrison and Raymond (Bud) C. Harrington married on Sept. 2, 1956 and moved to South Portland. Marie worked at Mercy Hospital and also as a private duty nurse while she and Bud raised their two sons, Jeff and Ken, in the Portland area.
Eventually Marie and Bud settled in Benton in 1965. She was hired to fill a nursing position with the Scott Paper Co. in Winslow and remained at that location until transferring to a head nurse position in the medical department at the Kimberly Clark Mill in Hinckley where she worked until her retirement.
In the early years of their retirement Marie and Bud enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada in their fifth-wheel RV. Marie enjoyed photography, cribbage, gardening, glass working and the outdoors. She also enjoyed researching her family’s history which confirms her ancestral roots going back to the Mayflower and earlier. She is an official Mayflower Society Member.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Fae Morrison; daughter-in-law Louise Harrington and husband Raymond Harrington.
Marie is survived by her sons, Jeffery Harrington of Winslow, Kenneth Harrington and his wife Susan Sablon-Harrington of Spotsylvania, Va. She is also survived by her granddaughter Amy Oliver, husband Matt and great grandson Reid of Fairfield, grandson Kenneth Harrington, Jr. and his wife Brooke Fornea of Ashville, NC, as well as her stepgrandson Ryan Sablon of Spotsylvania, Va. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Donald Kemp and wife Deborah Kemp of Lexington, NC.
At Marie’s request there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service to inter Marie along with the ashes of her husband, Raymond will be held at Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth, on Saturday Sept. 14, 2024, at 11 a.m.
