LITCHFIELD — An automobile crash closed part of state Route 197 in Litchfield for several hours Sunday morning, according to officials.
The crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m. near Percy’s Hardware Co. at 483 Richmond Road, according to Chief Mike Sherman of the Litchfield Fire Department.
State Route 197, also known as Richmond Road, reopened at about 12:30 p.m.
Sherman said Sunday he could not confirm details ahead of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, which was investigating the crash.
Sherman would only describe the crash as “serious,” and Kennebec County Sheriff Ken Mason said Sunday evening he expected more information would be released Monday.
The Maine State Police were reconstructing the accident, according to Lt. Aaron Turcotte.
Along with the Litchfield Fire Department, the Wales Fire & Rescue Department responded to the crash.
