Shirley Mae Weston
SKOWHEGAN – Shirley Mae Weston, 88, born in Farmington, on August 3, 1936, daughter of Ralph and Sarah (Welch) Bailey, passed peacefully on Sept. 10, 2024, surrounded by family. Despite a long battle with dementia, her spirit remained unbroken.
A creative, loving, and beautiful soul, Shirley spent her life in Skowhegan, where she filled her days as a homemaker and nurturer for her beloved family. A woman of faith, she found solace in reading her Bible.
In her free time, Shirley found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid cook, a creator of puzzles, and an animal lover who held a fondness for her dogs and cats. Her garden was special to her, a place where she could lose herself among the flowers and plants that she so carefully nurtured.
Shirley was a loving mother to her children, James Stetson, Sharon Fitzmorris and husband Jerry, Wally Stetson and wife Marcia, Julie Gilbert with husband Jim, Elizabeth Skidgell and husband Chris, and Jonathan Weston and wife Wendy, stepdaughters Carla and her husband Jeff and Pam and her husband Mike, as well as her daughter-in-law Irene. Her love and wisdom will be carried on by her grandchildren, Stacey, Jason, Lynn, Jeremy, Miranda, Dylan, Amanda, Rick, Jared, Christopher, Zach, Jessica, Josh, Jocelyn, Fawn, Billy Jo, Jaime, Jason, and Troy; and several great-grandchildren. Shirley will also be remembered by her sister May, brother Bo, stepbrother Francis Bedard; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Earland Weston; her parents, Ralph Bailey and Sarah Welch; her son, Kenneth Stetson; and her six older siblings.
A special thank you to Beacon Hospice and Woodlawn for their exceptional care and great staff. A graveside service will be held at East Skowhegan Cemetery, on Oct. 5, 2024, at 1 p.m. Immediately following a celebration of life will be held at the Carrabassett Masonic Lodge, located at 21 Oak Pond Rd. in Skowhegan.
