TEMPLE — The Historical Society building was damaged Wednesday when an unidentified driver crashed into it before fleeing the scene.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Couture took a report of a vehicle striking the building at the corner of Day Mountain Road and Intervale Road sometime Wednesday afternoon.
“At some point throughout the day someone failed to negotiate the corner and struck the Historical Society building,” according to a news release. “The section of building that was hit was the old post office built in 1811. The building sustained significant damage.”
Police believe the vehicle that hit the building was a pickup truck, Jeep or a vehicle of similar size vehicle due to the height of the damage. The operator left the scene and never reported this crash to the Sheriff’s Office.
If anyone has any information about the person or vehicle responsible for the crash, they are is asked to call Franklin County Regional Communications Center at 207-778-6140.
