Police say a woman who was found dead in a Bangor home Wednesday was the victim of a homicide.

The woman, identified Thursday as 39-year-old Virginia Cookson, was found in a home on Larkin Street after 9 a.m. Wednesday, the Bangor Police Department said in a statement Thursday.

After Cookson did not show up for work Wednesday, a co-worker stopped by the residence and later called the police around 9 a.m., Detective Lieutenant Brent Beaulieu said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner completed a post-mortem examination of Cookson’s body Thursday and deemed her manner of death a homicide, Beaulieu said.

The incident remains under investigation, and Beaulieu said police will not release additional details at this time.
