Francis “Joe” Tuttle
HARTLAND – On Sept. 13, 2024, the world lost an incredible soul. Francis “Joe” Tuttle aka “Scruff Dog”. Joe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and a few close friends.
He was born in Bangor on July 10, 1956, to Cecelia (Leen) and Amos K. Tuttle Sr. The family moved to Athens where Joe eventually met his first wife, Betsy Corson, and together, they welcomed their beautiful daughter Carrie, the absolute pride and joy of his life.
The small town of Athens is where his passion for motorcycles began. All starting with passing a cop “while unlicensed ” and hiding his motorcycle on his mother-in-law’s porch.
Early on he became a member of The Somerset County United Bikers of Maine where his commitment and support would last his lifetime.
Once his daughter was grown, he knew it was time to follow his dreams of becoming a member of the Exiles M.C. where he had spent the last 16 plus years with his brothers.
Joe will be remembered for his dedication to The Exiles Athens Weekend Party held every spring with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Athens Community.
He worked many years for Dexter Shoe. Ware Butler Building Supply and Linkletter and Son’s Trucking Co.
In 2010 he met the love of his life Vicki. They were married on Valentines Day 2014 during a blizzard and settled in Hartland with their beloved dog Bella. The last few years his health started to decline but through it all he remained upbeat and positive. Even willing to shave off his signature beard of 40 plus years .
Joe leaves behind his loving wife Vicki; his precious daughter Carrie with her husband Derek Miller; grandsons Brayden and Jake Miller, who became Papa’s greatest joy; brothers Amos “Kenny” Tuttle Jr. and Frank Leen; his “adopted” sons and granddaughters that melted his heart; extended family members; and the many friends whom he called his family.
He was predeceased by his parents Cecelia and Amos K. Tuttle Sr.; sister Donna; a special niece Toni; his best friend and sister Bobbie Brooks.
He will continue to live on through all who were lucky enough to be a part of his life’s journey.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Oct. 12 at the Pine Grove Cemetary Cool Ext. In Hartland. Celebration of Life to follow at The Exhibition Hall in Athens.
