Harlan Earl Emery
HARTLAND – Harlan Earl Emery, 97, died peacefully on Sept. 29, 2024, surrounded by his family in Pittsfield.
Harlan was born on Nov. 10, 1926, in Hartland, son of the late Harold and Leona (Cyr) Emery. In 1945 he graduated from Hartland Academy then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Harlan retired from the Edwards Company in 1990 after 34 years of dedicated employment. Since 1962 Harlan was a devoted member of the Corinthian Lodge #95 A.F. and A.M., and the Anah Shriners of Bangor, as well as a member of the Hartland Historical Society.
Harlan’s love for his family was unmatched, his smile and humble, caring demeanor captivated anyone he met. He never missed his daily crossword, was an avid golfer and reader, always loved a “good flashlight”, traveling in his motor home, and was proud to have kept his driver’s license until he turned 95. He was a recipient of the Boston Post Cane for being Hartland’s oldest citizen.
Harlan is survived by his son, Tim and wife Cheryl of Hartland; stepdaughters, Linda Brewer and husband Ralph of Canaan, and Diana Emery of Hartland; grandchildren, Sarah Emery Haley and husband Shawn, Brendan Donaldson, Sierra Harris, Darrin Dyer and wife Kathy, Deanna Harris and husband Mitchell, Catherine Austin, and Cindy Annett; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Clyde Emery of Hartland; several nieces and nephews; and grand-dogs and grand-cats.
Harlan was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ina Emery, in 2012, after 52 years; sisters, Hilda Nutter and Norma Nutter; nephew, Scott Nutter; and great-grandson, Scott Austin.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Hartland with a masonic service and military honors being presented for his service to his country.
