Gloria (Hallett) Tracy Coleman

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. – Gloria (Hallett) Tracy Coleman passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2024 with her two beloved sons by her side.

Born in Gardiner, the daughter of the late Carlton and Enola Hallett. She was a graduate of Cony High School, Augusta, class of 1951 and Perry Normal School, Boston (now merged with Curry College, Milton, Mass.). Upon graduation, she moved to Cape Cod accepting a teaching position in Harwich, Mass. where she taught 1st grade for 24 years. She loved her students, each and every one and delighted in their accomplishments each year!

In 1960, Gloria married Earl F. Tracy Jr. and had two sons, Mark and Brian. Sadly, Earl’s life was cut short but Gloria persevered and raised her sons in a manner respected by all.

Gloria later worked as an administrative assistant at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, Hyannis, Mass. for 15 years.

In 1997 she met “the love of her life”, Vernon E. Coleman, television and radio broadcast engineer. They married a year later, purchasing a home in Marstons Mills, Mass. Gloria and Vern worked together establishing beautiful gardens and a welcoming home. They traveled to Bermuda, the Caribbean, London and Scotland, but most of all loved being at home on Cape Cod. Vern passed away in 2012.

Gloria’s love of fashion and interior design inspired her life and was evident in the design and color of the gardens at her home, as well as her personal sense of style. She delighted in arranging and displaying beautiful floral arrangements. Her love for fresh flowers was such that you would always find them in her home. Her other interests included cooking, entertaining, reading, an avid Scrabble player, symphony and theater devotee and loved music of all kinds.

She is survived by her sons, Mark E. Tracy and wife Sherry of Cortez, Fla. and Plymouth, Mass. and Brian M. Tracy and wife Joanmarie of Cummaquid, Mass. Also, survived by stepdaughters, Barbara Workman and Linda Osborne and stepson, Vernon H. Coleman; a beloved niece, Wendy S. Hallett of Augusta, niece, Penny Drewry and nephew, Scott Hallett.

Also, remembered with love and kindness are her long time friends, and her newfound friends who she shared residence with at Thirwood Place.

She was predeceased by her first beloved husband, Earl F. Tracy, Jr. in 1976; her brother, Stanley C. Hallett, her brother, Doran R. Hallett; her stepdaughter, Patricia Yahoub; and lifelong (childhood) friend, Madelyn D. Piper.

The family will be hosting A Celebration of Life, Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m., to be held at Thirwood Place, 237 North Main St., South Yarmouth, Mass. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Gloria’s life and share memories.

In lieu of flowers, Gloria requested donations be made to Shriners Children’s.
