Our town was moved to the 2nd Congressional District in reapportionment. In 2022, I voted for Jared Golden while recognizing he had a tough line to toe to keep enough right-leaning voters and centrists.
This cycle, however, I cannot vote for him. He was quoted several weeks ago as being “OK” if Trump won. I wrote to him and he did not disavow this.
This attitude seriously crosses the line when you are “OK” with authoritarianism and violence instead of the rule of law. When you are “OK” with rape, fraud, and all Trump’s other felonies you have lost me.
It is bridge too far to support Golden’s opponent. I believe if the republican wins CD2 the Democrats can maintain their majority with success in New York, California, and elsewhere.
With Golden gone we can find a better candidate in two years.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
