Alice Margarite Markham

HALLOWELL – Alice Margarite Markham, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, at Hillside Manor in Hallowell.

She was born in Gardiner on Nov. 16, 1929, to the late Charles and Evelyn Caswell. She attended schools in West Gardiner and Gardiner, graduating from Gardiner High School in 1948.

She was employed at the Augusta Mental Health Institute retiring after 25 years. She attended the Augusta Gospel Tabernacle for many years.

She married Merle A. Markham on July 23, 1948. They lived in Chelsea, for many years then moved to Monmouth on the shores of Sand Pond. Upon Merle’s passing she moved to Randolph.

She enjoyed gardening and lawn sales but most of all the big family get togethers at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Alice is survived by her three sons Philip Markham and wife Pam of Fitchburg, Mass., Bruce Markham and wife Terry of Readfield, and Thomas Markham and wife Karen of Pittston; five grandsons Randy Markham, Issac Markham, Philip Markham, Christopher Markham and Matthew Markham; several step grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

A graveside service to celebrate Alice’s 94 years of life will be at 1 p.m., on Saturday the 19th, of October 2024 at the Ripps Cemetery, Lewiston Road, West Gardiner.

She was a wonderful, caring person and will be sadly missed by all.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
