PALMYRA — A man suffered serious injuries after a reported stabbing during the early morning hours Friday, Maine State Police said.

The stabbing, which Maine State Police described earlier in the day only as an “incident” that led to a road closure, was reported shortly before 3 a.m. at 482 Madawaska Road in Palmyra, according to a news release from Shannon Moss, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The victim was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield and later to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he was listed in critical condition. Moss said police were not releasing the victim’s identity.

Madawaska Road was closed for much of the day while police detectives interviewed people and evidence response technicians processed the scene, Moss said. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit — Central and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office are both investigating.

“There is no known danger to the public,” Moss said in the release. “Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.”
