PITTSFIELD — In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Sebasticook Valley Federal Credit Union is raising money through pink ribbon sales to support a Maine nonprofit, Sarah’s House of Maine, which provides a free home away from home for cancer patients undergoing treatment.

Throughout the month, staff will also participate in a “pink out” dress-down week. The credit union was inspired by their employee, survivor Amy Lucas, who returned to work at the credit union two years ago following her journey with breast cancer, according to a news release.

Sarah’s House was started by Sarah Robinson, of Old Town and Dexter, who used her own cancer journey to create a safe place for others undergoing cancer treatment, before her passing in December 2011.
