Barbara Ann “Barb” St. Pierre
AUGUSTA – Barbara Ann “Barb” St. Pierre, 80, passed away on Oct. 15, 2024, at her home following an extended illness. She was born on Dec. 26, 1943, in Coatesville, Pa., to the late Charles and Gertrude (Spickler) Duplin.
She attended Augusta area schools and graduated from Mount Merici Academy in Waterville.
Barbara retired from the State of Maine Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Standards having worked there for many years. Prior to her state service, she worked as a waitress at Howard Johnson’s, as a bank teller with Depositor’s Trust Company, and as an office clerk with Farrell’s clothing store. Barbara also was employed for several years as a jewelry clerk at TJ Maxx. Barbara was a fiercely independent lady who, as a single mom, most always worked two jobs.
In her younger years she enjoyed horseback riding and later in life, she had the opportunity to vacation in St. Maarten where she relished horseback riding along the beach. She was an avid reader, a wonderful cook, took pleasure in flowers and flower gardening, and also appreciated her alone time. She had an affinity for jewelry and cats. She looked forward to family summer and holiday gatherings. At Christmas she gifted holiday floral centerpieces, which she thoughtfully hand-crafted. She treasured time spent with her best friend Marlene, playing cards with her sisters on Sundays, and going out to eat (Chinese food was a favorite!). Barbara loved her sons dearly and was proud when she acquired the title of “Grammy”. She was a supportive grandparent – attending countless school activities, sporting events, and dance recitals.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents and three half-sisters.
She is lovingly survived by her sons, Leonard and his wife Jeanne of Sidney, and Eric and his fiancé Megan Wilts of Anchorage, Alaska; her grandchildren Lauren of Augusta, Andrew and his wife Jordan of Waterville, Erika of Westbrook, Travis of Anchorage, Alaska, and Nathalie and her fiancé Dylan Burton of Scarborough; and her two great-grandchildren Harper and Jackson.
Barbara also leaves behind five sisters, Alice Rafuse, Bernadette Collier, Gabrielle Sutherland, Michelle Monroe and Maria Austin; and three brothers, Charles Duplin Jr., Albert Duplin and Paul Duplin.
