All of the talk about false information on the internet influencing our elections is not overstated. However, the fantasy that voters are innocent pawns that can’t fact check the misinformation is a sham.
Voters are adults (one of the few requirements to vote) and they are voting in this election for their values. And I do mean their personal values.
Trump accurately represents the integrity and values of more than 40% of the electorate. If you vote for him, you are personally endorsing his policies and values.
Harris is fairly new to most of the country, but the values of the Democratic Party have been on display for my lifetime (and that’s a long time). Her values have been on display and can be accessed on reputable sites (not Facebook or Twitter/X).
We know what the stakes are for this election, and I implore to my fellow Americans to do a little fact checking and use some critical thinking in your choice. For those that blindly accept any stories that reinforce your beliefs, you deserve the results of a shoddy job.
This election cycle is a clear demonstration of the values of the voters. No excuses for “not having enough information” or “my friends are just misinformed by lies.” Freely express your values to your family and friends and show your personal priorities with your vote.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
