Born the first of six children, Dorothy grew up in New Sharon and Starks, graduating from New Sharon High School in 1949. She worked at the soda fountain at Newberry’s store in Farmington, and later as an operator for New England telephone, where she met Gene, a lineman there. The next few years they lived in the Portland area when Gene was transferred with the phone company, while Dot enjoyed working for Shaws Supermarket there. In 1960 they moved to the Bingham area, building in neighboring Concord in 1963. They enjoyed skiing, hunting and fishing, and especially time at Paul’s, Gene’s brother, sporting camps on Brassua Lake. In 1971 they moved to Brewer, before building and settling in Orrington where they have lived since 1975.
Dorothy was a longtime communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Brewer where she was active in the Sodality and the Daughters of Isabella. She also worked with Stella Soucie as a caterer, and as a lunch lady in Orrington schools. A constant in Dots life over the years was children, as she was “Memere” to many, and had a hand in raising countless children over the decades. Dot passed in the home she loved, overlooking the pond and surrounded by her loving family.
