Nicole Clegg has been named CEO and president of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, the organization announced Wednesday.
Clegg has been serving as interim CEO since March 2023. She has been with the nonprofit, which provides reproductive health services and abortions, since 2013. Clegg “worked to expand the scope of the organization’s Public Affairs department and helped pass a dozen pieces of proactive legislation, several of which dramatically improved access to abortion and family planning,” the organization said.
“Nicole has been a steady and thoughtful leader,” said Dr. Harry Chen, vice chair of PPNNE’s Board of Trustees. “As interim CEO, she guided PPNNE through an era of unprecedented change, including recovering from COVID, funding gaps, and the fall of Roe v. Wade.”
Planned Parenthood of Northern New England has 32,000 patients and 15 clinics in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Before joining Planned Parenthood, Clegg served as the vice president of public affairs for the Family Planning Association of Maine (now Maine Family Planning), as a spokesperson for the Maine Public Utilities Commission, and as the director of communications for the city of Portland.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
