SKOWHEGAN — State fire investigators are probing a recent string of dumpster fires at businesses in Skowhegan, officials confirmed Thursday.

The Office of State Fire Marshal has an “active and ongoing” investigation into three recent fires, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The Skowhegan Fire Department responded Tuesday afternoon to a dumpster fire at the New Balance manufacturing facility on Walnut Street, Chief Ronnie Rodriguez said in a phone call Wednesday.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within six minutes of arriving at the scene around 3:30 p.m., and the fire was contained to the dumpster, Rodriguez said. No injuries were reported.
In the last three months, the Skowhegan Fire Department has responded to similar fires near Maine Grains on Court Street and Gifford’s ice cream manufacturing facility on Hathaway Street, Rodriguez said.
In those cases, the fires were also contained to the dumpsters and caused no further damage or injuries, Rodriguez said.
Investigators have not yet determined if the fires are connected, Moss said in an email Thursday, relaying information from the fire marshal’s office.
Moss did not answer Thursday if investigators had determined the causes of any of the fires.
The fire marshal’s office is asking anyone with information to contact investigators by calling 207-626-3870.
