The Gibbs Library plans to present its Fall/Winter Fiber Art Show, “The Nature of Wool Felt,” works by Amy Donaghy Nov. 1 through December at the library, 40 Old Union Road, in Washington.
Donaghy was born in Maine and after traveling and working in other parts of the world, settled in Washington. She has felt driven to create art most of her life working primarily with wool, utilizing both wet and needle felting techniques. She also sews, creates multimedia sculptures and recently has begun carving and linoleum printing. Amy draws inspiration from the natural world, and the surrounding beauty of Maine.
“My work is inspired by nature; the nature of the forests and ocean around me and the tactile, sculptural nature of the wool. Wool has a multifold beauty; its ability to keep us warm and its ability to be created into works of art,” said Donaghy in a news release from the library.
A reception with light refreshments is set for 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
