Norman S. Bailey Jr.
GARDINER – Norman S. Bailey Jr., 76, of Gardiner died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, following a long illness, his sons faithfully at his side.
Norman was born in Gardiner on April 16, 1948, the son of the late Marion A. (Messenger) and Norman S. Bailey Sr. He attended Gardiner High School and graduated in 1966. He continued his education at Southern Maine Technical College studying Building Construction and Architectural Design and at the University of Southern Maine, Industrial Technology Design.
Norman worked at Grossman Lumber before joining the National Guard where he served for 16 years. He continued in the lumber industry working for Diamond Lumber then bought the Dresden Texaco before being hired as a drafting engineer at Bath Iron Works. He also held jobs at Gagne Precast, Gagne & Son, Diamond Lumber, Garrity Lumber Co., Marriner Lumber Co. and Hammond Lumber Company where he worked as the store manager and assisted with the opening of new locations.
In his spare time, Norman enjoyed fishing, cross country skiing, mountain biking, boating, sports cars, coin collecting and was an avid New England sports team fan.
Norman was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne Bailey.
He is survived by his two sons, Erin Bailey of Gardiner and Eric Bailey of Tennessee; a sister, Beth Turcotte and her husband Andy of Florida; four grandchildren, Dylan J., Sierra K. of Gardiner and Parker J. and Charlee J. of Tennessee; several aunts, uncles; nieces and nephews.
