I am writing about Marc Levy’s Oct. 21 Associated Press article titled “Some Jewish voters in presidential swing states reconsider their longtime devotion to Democrats.”

If you are a lifelong Jewish Democrat like I am, and you are thinking about voting Republican for the first time because you think Trump is better for the Jews, please reconsider. Trump was, and will be again if elected, the most dangerous president possible for the Jewish people. His record is clear.

In 2017, in Charlottesville, Va., he praised the white nationalist marchers who held an antisemitic rally, causing 30 injuries and killing one,  while shouting “Jews will not replace us.” Trump called  them “very fine people,” unleashing a wave of antisemitism in this country and around the world that has yet to subside. Good for the Jews? No way.

In 2018, he ended the nuclear agreement with Iran that President Obama had negotiated, enabling Iran to enrich uranium, which it began doing less than two years later. Good for the Jews? No way.

Also in  2018, when Etz Chaim Synagogue in Pittsburgh was attacked by a white supremacist, killing 11 congregants, Trump made sure that Congress took no action to ban assault rifles and continues to support the owning of assault rifles. Good for the Jews? No way.

In 2020, when Trump lost the election by over 7 million votes, he tried to overthrow the government by blocking a peaceful transfer of power, causing six more deaths, injuring 174 police officers, lying about the election results, and pushing the rule of law to the gutter as he has done many times before and since. He was convicted on 34 felony counts earlier this year for falsifying business records. As Jews, the rule of law and honesty are integral to our existence. Are Trump’s efforts to ignore the rule of law and his constant telling of lies good for the Jews? No way.

While president, he stacked the Supreme Court with right-wing justices who have ruled that women have no right to determine what’s best for their own bodies. Human rights and justice are the very basis of the meaning of being Jewish. Is Trump’s hatred of this most basic of human rights, women’s control of their own bodies, good for Jews or anyone else? No way.

For all of these reasons, and many more that won’t fit here, please do not elect Trump and instead help Kamala Harris continue to repair the world, not destroy it.
