AUGUSTA — Becoming Wolf: The Eastern Coyote in New England, presented by Chris Schadler, is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Lithgow Public Library, 45 Winthrop St.
This free program takes a deep dive into the ecology and behavior of this creature, its indefatigability and how it is the human who must adapt.
On the horizon, however, is a native carnivore which fled the northeast during wolf removal and now may be trying to return: The eastern wolf. A look-alike to the coyote, it has been killed mistakenly for its similarity of appearance to the coyote, according to the library’s website.
Schadler is the chair of the Webster Conservation Commission, the New Hampshire and Vermont representative of Project Coyote, a co-founder of New Hampshire Wildlife Coalition, and member of Northeast Wolf Recovery Alliance. She has lectured throughout New England on the Eastern Coyote for 30 years.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
