I’ve had the opportunity to observe both candidates running for District 2 in Winslow in their interactions with the School Board. The difference could not be starker.
Dale Macklin asked questions at every budget meeting during the 2022 budgeting cycle, trying to learn how the school budget process worked, what various programs and projected expenses were, and what administrators were doing to keep costs down.
In contrast, Steve Soucy accused the Winslow School Board of “enslaving” Winslow school children to receive funding from the federal government as a condition of following Maine DOE protocols during the COVID pandemic.
Soucy’s sustained antipathy towards school administrators who are following Maine law (i.e. the Maine Human Rights Act) and who disagree with him on masks, transgender issues and book banning, is evident as his comments at numerous school board meetings demonstrate.
I’m voting for Dale Macklin.
