AUGUSTA — The driver of a tractor-trailer was arrested near state offices Wednesday for driving under the influence, officials said.

Gerald King, 64, of Buxton, was arrested shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday after police received a 911 call about a semitruck being driven unpredictably on Leighton Road.
After conducting a sobriety test, King was taken into custody by the Maine Capitol Police, who mainly provide security for Maine’s Capitol complex and state offices but “may take action statewide as needed,” according to its website.
King was charged with operating under the influence while operating a commercial vehicle, booked by the Augusta Police Department and transferred to the Kennebec County jail in Augusta.
King was released on bail and has a court appearance slated for January, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Shannon Moss.
