Hollis H. “Herb” Buck
AUGUSTA – Hollis H. “Herb” Buck, 70, of Augusta, passed away peacefully at the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at Togus Springs, on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, following a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born Sept. 16, 1954, the son of Elaine (Ingalls) and Neil Buck.
Hollis grew up in Augusta attending local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1977 to 1980 and after was a member of the Army National Guard, 3/172 Mountain Inf. – Co B. After his military service he chose a path of self-employment as a carpenter and painter.
He was an adventurous spirit enjoying camping – winter and summer, hunting and fishing. He also loved rappelling, rock and mountain climbing, snow shoeing and skiing, all of which were reflected in his service with the National Guard and meant a great deal to him.
Hollis in his younger years was an avid bowler. He loved to play cribbage and was always ready for a game. He was quick witted with a great sense of humor. He was a kind generous soul who marched to the beat of his own drum. There will always be stories we will share about ‘Old Herb’.
Hollis was predeceased by his parents. He leaves his sons Jeremie Buck and Trevor Buck and wife Wendy; three grandchildren. Liam, Lucy and Eben; brothers, Kenneth and wife Gayle, Kendall and wife Phyllis, and sister Cathy Chesley and husband Brent; ass well as many nieces and nephews.
Herb’s military committal service will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday the Nov. 15, at the “NEW” Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery – Chapel, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine.
