Norma Dean
SKOWHEGAN – Norma Dean, 96, of Skowhegan, passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, 2024. Born on April 11, 1928, she was the beloved daughter of Grace and Norman Brack and spent her entire life in Skowhegan, where she made lasting memories and deep connections.
Norma met the love of her life, C. Stanley Dean, at a roller rink, they married in June of 1944, and their 71 years together were filled with love, laughter, and adventure until his passing in 2015. Norma devoted over 50 years to her career as District Manager for Stanley Home Products, earning numerous national awards and accolades for her outstanding work.
She was a dedicated reader and bluegrass music enthusiast, and delighted in the simple things in life. She enjoyed card games with her extensive circle of friends, making exquisite crafts, and savoring delicious desserts. With a spirit for adventure, Norma travelled to places like Hawaii and Paris, and explored the US and Canada in her RV. She also cherished attending Red Sox games with her parents, creating lasting memories.
Norma’s lively personality was mirrored in her affection for vivid and striking colors. She divided her time between summers in Maine and winters in Florida, embracing the snowbird lifestyle for over 30 years. There, she organized bus trips for seniors and welcomed friends into her home for nightly card games, always finishing with a sweet treat.
As an active member of the Methodist Church in Skowhegan, Norma dedicated many years to volunteering, particularly by managing the church diner at the Skowhegan State Fair, where her warmth and generosity impacted numerous lives.
Norma is survived by her son Brian Dean and wife Marcie; her grandchildren Dustin Dean and wife Lenise, Troy Dean and wife Kris, and Bill Vontobel and fiancé Stephanie; her great grandchildren Lauren, Cooper, Spencer and Cameron, Sister Liz Abbott; and special family friend Kathy Stephens. She was predeceased by her husband C. Stanley Dean and daughter Marilyn Vontobel. Norma will be profoundly missed yet cherished for her zest for life and steadfast devotion to her loved ones.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cedar Ridge Nursing home for their decade-long care, with special thanks to Karen Doiron, Emily Jackson, and Emily Turcotte. Additionally, they appreciate the support from the Beacon Hospice Care team, including Kristy, Eric and Nicole.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday Nov. 7, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St Madison, Maine. A grave side service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024 at South Side Cemetery in Skowhegan.
