Roger L. Dube
SOUTH GARDINER – Roger L. Dube, 91, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Oct. 30, 2024, after a long battle with dementia, at the Maine Veterans Home, in Augusta.
Roger was the only child of the late Philip and Isabelle Dube, born April 29, 1933. As a young man, Roger served in the Navy, stationed in the Philippines during the Korean War. Roger was very proud of his time with the Seabees.
Upon returning home, Roger and his wife, Victoria Ann, made their home on Cobbossee Lake in East Winthrop where they raised their nine children. Roger worked at Bath Iron Works, retiring in 1987 after 30 years.
Roger was good with his hands, building his home on the lake and any project that he could do that could be sold to support his large family. He also tackled building his own windmill behind the house. Roger was known as “The Tin Man” as he created Tin Men out of cans. Roger enjoyed putting puzzles together, boating, camping and going to drive-ins. In his later years he enjoyed going on car rides and finding knick-knacks at lawn sales along the way. His favorite trips were going to Kingfield and Canada.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Victoria Ann Dube; and two daughters, Linda Wright and Lisa DeWachter.
Roger is survived by his children Debby Roy, Theresa (Larry) Pettengill, Roger (Theresa) Dube, Paul Dube and his partner Dixie, Irene Ogon, Isabel (Tim) Thomas and Phillippe Dube; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; and his partner of 23 years, Sylvia Pratt.
The family would like to thank Roberta Pratt Lovely for taking care of Dad while he was still able to remain in the home following his dementia diagnosis. The family would also like to thank Maine Veterans Home for their exceptional care of Dad in these final months.
Roger will be interred at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery. A private celebration of his life with his immediate family will be held to share memories of Dad and Pepe.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
