AUGUSTA — The Dexter field hockey team defended its Class C North championship Wednesday, coming back from a one-goal deficit late to claim a 2-1 victory over Foxcroft Academy in the regional title game at Fuller Field.
After a scoreless first half, second-ranked Foxcroft (13-3-1) took the lead late in the third quarter off a penalty corner courtesy of Emma McGary. No. 1 Dexter got the tying goal with just over six minutes to go from Presley Dow, who then scored with 5:27 left in overtime to give the Tigers (16-1-0) the sudden-death win.
Dexter will face C South No. 1 seed Winthrop (17-0-0) in Saturday’s state championship game at Edward Little High School in Auburn. The Ramblers, who beat Hall-Dale 3-0 in Wednesday’s Southern Maine title game, defeated the Tigers 2-1 in last year’s Class C final.
